Colloquium on Causes and Consequences of Human Freedom

On May 14–17, Niclas Berggren and Christian Bjørnskov will organize a colloquium focusing on human freedom and the institutional safeguards for personal and economic liberties, treated as mutually reinforcing foundations of prosperity. In six Socratic sessions with pre-circulated texts, specially invited scholars will examine definitions, the relation of freedom to rights, when political and economic freedom align or conflict, which institutions protect freedom amid AI, war, and migration, and when, if at all, freedom should yield to collective concerns. The collocuium is co-financed by the John Templeton Foundation and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN).
