Corporate Ownership, Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship

A strong entrepreneurial ecosystem is vital for firm growth, productivity, and Sweden’s competitiveness. The purpose of this project is to understand how ownership, entrepreneurship, and venture capital interact to create and develop globally competitive firms in the Swedish economy.

The project studies how entrepreneurs, investors, and owners influence firm performance, and how capital, skills, and control are distributed within the business sector. We pay particular attention to the functioning of the Swedish venture capital market, how ownership structures affect firm outcomes, and what drives some firms to grow into so-called unicorns.

Using Swedish registry data that follow both firms and individuals over time, the project provides new insights into how the backgrounds, experience, and networks of entrepreneurs and investors shape firm success and economic dynamism.
