16 October 2025

Daniel Waldenström was invited to speak at the European Family Business conference held in Lisbon on October 13–14. Daniel participated in two sessions. First, in a panel discussion on wealth taxation and experiences from Sweden, and then in a presentation based on his book Richer and More Equal – A New History of Wealth in the West, with a discussion on ownership and distribution as well as growth and lessons from history.

Together with Neil Davy, CEO of Family Business UK, and Peje Emilsson, founder and owner of Kreab Worldwide, Daniel participated in a panel discussion led by Erik Stern, Vice President of Family Business Network Sweden.

The panel analyzed how Sweden revitalized business transfers by abolishing inheritance tax in 2004 and compared it with recent changes in the UK's inheritance tax system, particularly regarding Business Property Relief (BPR) and Agricultural Property Relief (APR).

Daniel then gave a speech based on his book. He argued that Western societies have become more, not less, egalitarian, contrary to the prevailing narrative. Daniel also presented research on the development and role of inherited wealth in modern society, and how capital should be taxed within growth-promoting tax systems.
