A competitive EU at the right price

6 February 2013

The anthology " Ett konkurrenskraftigt EU till rätt pris “ (A competitive EU at the right price) was presented at a seminar in Stockholm on February 6. Participation was among other Birgitta Olsson, Minister for EU-affairs, and Mikael Damberg (S). Panelists were IFN researchers Pär Holmberg and Thomas Tangerås, who also wrote a chapter in the book. So did Olle Folke and Johanna Rickne, both IFN. One of the editors, Lars Oxelheim, is affiliated to IFN.

"A single electricity market will strengthen EU's competitiveness" is the title of the chapter Pär Holmberg and Thomas Tangerås authored. Both were part of a research panel at the seminar discussing if smart, innovative and sustainable competition is within the reach of the EU. One of their conclusions was that in regards to the electricity sector, the EU should take after Sweden and divide countries into different price areas.
"Women's trick and EU competitiveness" is the title of the chapter written by Johanna Rickne and Olle Folke. They argue that greater equality with more women in the work force and with successful careers is a profitable strategy.
