Investments, Productivity and Competition in the Broadband Market
The Swedish government has released a broadband strategy with the goals of having world-class broadband and ensuring that all residents have access to broadband. To achieve the goals, the government has, among other things, extended the support program for broadband expansion in rural areas. In this project, we analyze investments, productivity, mark-ups and competition in the broadband market. Despite the fact that the broadband strategy is a strategically important policy area and that digitalization is crucial for growth in all parts of the economy, we have surprisingly little knowledge about the broadband market and its links to policy instruments. This research project aims to fill this gap.
