A majority of the world’s countries ban forms of blasphemous expressions, often arguing that such legislation is necessary to prevent conflicts and terrorism. We explore the association between types of blasphemy legislation and terrorism in a large panel of countries. We find that blasphemy legislation in general is not associated with terrorism.
