Commenters regularly claim that parliament leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean favor their birth regions. Using granular data on nightlight intensity from up to 183,000 micro regions across 25 years and 366 political leaders, we show that this is the case. The effect is stronger the more power is constitutionally allocated to parliament.
