In this chapter I highlight how new research can provide answers to how gaps in health and wealth can be reduced. The focus is on an approach that can identify the causal direction of the connections between trust, health, and prosperity. I find clear evidence that trust promotes health and prosperity. The results point to the importance of promoting social trust among EU citizens to counter the effects of the economic crisis and the structural differences between the Member States.
